University of Ulster Relies on PAM-STAMP to Develop an Engine Nacelle Lipskin Preserving Laminar Flow

PAM-STAMP is an incredibly flexible virtual try-out software for sheet metal forming simulation that enables the rapid development of innovative forming solutions at minimal cost
Challenge
To achieve laminar flow on an aircraft engine nacelle leading edge by developing a process able to manufacture it in one piece using ESI's stamping solution.

Benefits
- A fully digital environment to develop, design and try-out a completely new approach,
- Single stage forming process, prototype cycle time of 5 minutes/part,
- Thickness variation within a single part less than 10% of original material, and thickness variation between parts under 2%.
- Surface waviness (d/λ) less than 0.0005, well under the generally admitted top limit of 0.002 to 0.015 for laminar flow
