Statistical Energy Analysis

In the modern world, there are many rules and legislations which govern how products should be made in order to create better, safer and more environmentally friendly products. One example is the sound levels and the control of sound emissions. It is a requirement for many products to fall under the guidelines before they are certified.

Statistical Energy Analysis

Acoustic science is a complex discipline and one of the core elements within this science is statistical energy analysis (SEA). SEA allows acoustic engineers to predict the noise levels of new designs. This allows them to walk into the project early in the design phase and make critical decisions to insure that all of the materials and the design itself will positively affect the sound of the product.

The importance of statistical energy analysis

The science of statistical energy analysis is vital to new product development. Previously, designers and engineers faced a long and frustrating process of trial and error. They could spend countless dollars and several months developing a new product only to find that it failed key tests concerning its sound properties. At this point the engineers had to go back to the drawing board and start again. Clearly this approach was time-consuming and expensive and it undoubtedly limited the designs of the engineers. But now, the discipline of virtual prototyping has changed all of that.

Working with statistical energy analysis software

Today, modern software applications take advantage of the ample availability of computing power to deliver solutions, including statistical energy analysis, which greatly enhances the design process. Instead of spending exaggerated amounts of time and money developing a physical prototype, engineers can create a virtual prototype far more cost-effectively. This, in turn, frees their imaginations allowing them to create other innovative products. Now, trial and error now operates in the virtual world via computers, so that there is no doubt as to whether the physical product will function successfully.
